06 May 2026

National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day is held annually on the first Wednesday of May. Today we honour and mourn lives lost to domestic violence and support victim-survivors. We remember and we reflect, quietly attending vigils, lighting candles, wearing purple, raising awareness, loudly speaking out and strengthening legislation. In this place and for all our communities, we should commit to working towards a future free from domestic violence. I thank the fabulous team at Blue Mountains Women's Health and Resource Centre, the EViE Project, Wilma, DV West, our local police domestic violence liaison officers and the Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre for their incredible work in this space. They make a difference and save lives. I urge those needing support and advice to phone the NSW Domestic Violence Line on 1800 656 463 or 1800 RESPECT.
