The written word creates a platform for the sharing of ideas, philosophies, memories and stories – real or imagined – and the annual and vibrant Blue Mountains Writers’  Festival provides an opportunity for us to connect with all that and more. Visitors were treated not only to the delights of the event but also, a chance to explore our beautiful Blue Mountains World Heritage National Park.

The Festival brought the community and visitors together to celebrate great Australian authors, poets and playwrights. An incredible array of distinguished writers and speakers were showcased, such as David Suzuki, Richard Glover, David Marr, Craig Foster, Madison Godfrey, Nevo Zisin and Omar Sakr, just to name a few.

I applaud Veechi Stuart, Amy Sambrooke, Maeve Marsden, Jaala Hallett and the amazing team at Varuna, the National Writers’ House, along with the scores of fabulous volunteers who make this event possible, all working tirelessly together  to realise their vision of elevating and inspiring readers to “new levels of curiosity and intrigue, whilst celebrating the unique qualities of Australia’s literary landscape.”

Congratulations to the Festival team. We look forward to another successful and inspiring event in 2024!
