In speaking in debate on the Social and Affordable Housing NSW Fund Bill 2016, I note that to date governments of both political stripes have failed to create and maintain adequate public and affordable housing stock in this State.
In its pursuit of excessive surpluses, the interest of Coalition governments has been to suppress housing stock and to exacerbate the housing affordability crisis in which New South Wales finds itself.Read more
I note that the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure has obviously been busier in recent weeks than usual. Last night he announced additional rail transport capacity for the Blue Mountains line, among other changes throughout the network.
An additional 2,000 seats will apparently be added to the Blue Mountains line through the conversion of some weekday afternoon trains to eight-car services.Read more
I stand here today for tolerance and acceptance and pride.
I stand here today on behalf of young people like Murray in year 12 in my electorate and the many other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and questioning [LGBTIQ] students and teachers, their families and friends.
The housing affordability crisis is evidenced by the numerous requests for housing assistance my staff and I receive from constituents every single day.
These people are at breaking point. I am compelled to tell some of their stories in this place to give voice and humanity to their pain, anguish, anxiety and distress.Read more
Ms TRISH DOYLE (Blue Mountains): I speak in debate on the Land and Property Information NSW (Authorised Transaction) Bill 2016.
The bill represents yet another instance of this conservative Government frantically rifling through pages of the public estate in search of something else it can flog off.Read more
I speak today on the Government's proposed Fair Trading Amendment (Commercial Agents) Bill 2016. This is an amendment that will repeal Labor's 2004 legislation and introduce protections for consumers and vulnerable people from aggressive and harassing debt collectors.
This amendment will have the effect of abolishing altogether any licensing regime for debt collectors operating in New South Wales.Read more
I acknowledge that this is the third debate on a petition with this wording presented to the New South Wales Parliament by Dr Yvonne McMaster.

Ms TRISH DOYLE ( Blue Mountains ) ( 15:34 ): I am pleased to speak today on this matter of public importance, Biodiversity Month. Biodiversity encompasses every living thing that exists on our planet and the environment in which they live. Biodiversity Month is important in celebrating what is known as the web of life, the interconnectedness of all things in our environment. Biodiversity Month is in September each year and aims to protect, conserve and improve biodiversity. It is absolutely critical that our environments, ecosystems and habitats are preserved for our future generations. Our wellbeing and our enjoyment of life depend on biodiversity, as do our food, our recreation and tourism, our clean water, our rainforests, our woodlands and our oceans.Read more

Recently I had the pleasure to meet with two palliative care advocates. Dr Yvonne McMaster, a Senior Australian of the Year finalist and inspiring visionary, spent 20 or more years assisting those facing the final stages of their life to live more comfortably and maintain a quality of life. The other was Mr David Wilkinson, who is the Cancer Council's Blue Mountains member of parliament liaison volunteer and president of the Nepean Blue Mountains Prostate Cancer Support Group. Both stressed the importance of holistic palliative care to provide the best quality of life possible, up to the point of death.Read more
