It is with pleasure that I acknowledge Mr Peter Johnson, a remarkable constituent of mine, who began his teaching career in 1978. He has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public education and its life-changing power in the lives of children and their families. Peter has held many senior leadership roles in the Department of Education, overseeing initiatives to improve quality education and outcomes for Aboriginal children. He has served as the executive director of the department's human resources and business services.
He also served as principal of Faulconbridge and Winmalee public schools. Teaching is a family affair for Peter and his wife, Janet, and son, Chris, who are also teachers. Nobody says it better than Peter:
I believe a good teacher has to love teaching, love kids and get huge satisfaction in seeing kids succeed. They also need to be resilient.
On behalf of the people of New South Wales and the Blue Mountains, I congratulate Peter. I thank him for his amazing contribution and pay him and Janet my deepest respect.
